Has a new furry member come to your home? If so, congratulations! The arrival of a dog is always a joy if it was planned, so it is sure that from now on it will make you laugh, and also cry (hopefully it will always be of joy, but remember that sometimes it can also make you sick).
But of course, dogs do not come with an instruction manual, and when they come into our lives as puppies it is very common to have many doubts about how to feed them. So if you would like to know how to feed a puppy dog, you have come to the right place. Find out why.
As he is not going to eat the same thing when he is 2 weeks old as when he is 6 months old, we are going to go step by step so that it is easier for you to know how and how often you should feed him.
From 0 to 1 month
During this stage it is very, very fragile. If he does not have the mother, you will have to make sure that he receives heat throughout the day (with blankets and thermal bottles), and you will also have to feed him every 3 hours with special milk for puppies with a syringe or bottle that you will find in pet stores. This milk must be warm, at about 37ºC.
You should not give cow's milk as it could cause stomach discomfort, as well as diarrhea.
From 1 month to 3 months
From this age can start eating solid, high-quality food. Ideally, he should eat wet puppy food, but you can also give him dry puppy food mixed with water.
With 2-3 months the teeth will have grown enough to be able to chew the feed without problems.
3 months a year
During these months you can eat dry puppy food. But, I insist, it must be good quality. The dog is a carnivorous animal, so the staple food must be meat, and no by-products or grains. Only then can it grow and develop without problems.
How often should you eat?
Depending on how old your puppy is, you will have to feed him more or less times:
- From 2 to 3 months: 4 times a day.
- From 4 to 6 months: 3 times a day.
- From 6 months: 2 times a day.
Enjoy your new furry friend.
I'm glad you liked it, Santi. 🙂
