Obviously, a eating Complete and high nutritional value is essential for the well-being of our dog. However, and despite the many facilities currently offered by the dog food market, there are those who, either for economic reasons or because of ignorance, offer their pet a poor diet. For these reasons we summarize some basic tips that you should follow to feed your dog correctly.

I think of high quality

The dog is an essentially carnivorous animal by nature, although it is also true that we currently find good quality vegetarian and vegan feed in specialized stores. In any case, said feed must provide all the necessary nutrients for the animal; it is best to opt for prestigious brands, if possible, made mainly with natural ingredients. It has to adapt to the age, size and breed of the dog.

Special mention should be made of specific feed for dogs suffering from certain diseases, such as leishmania or dysplasia. In this sense, it is essential to consult with the veterinarian. Likewise, we must always keep the feed in a cool and dry place. And if we want to substitute one feed for another, we must incorporate it into the dog's diet little by little so that its organism adapts well.

Homemade food

Some people prefer to feed their pet with homemade food, this being a completely acceptable alternative. If we opt for this option, we must take greater control over the animal's diet, making sure that we offer the necessary vitamins and nutrients. Also, it would be wise to plan a weekly menu. On this occasion, it is essential that the vet guides us to do everything in the correct way. On the other hand, although the dog's diet is based on feed, we can supplement it with homemade foods occasionally: fresh turkey without salt, pieces of apple and banana, cooked chicken, raw carrot, etc.

Hydration

The furry must always have access to clean fresh waterespecially during the warm months. This makes more sense during walks and car trips, when it uses up a higher level of energy. We must be alert to possible signs of dehydration.

Regular hours

It is recommended that the dog always eat at the same times, as it needs to acquire certain habits. Ideally, divide the daily ration into two or three takes (in puppies three) to facilitate their digestion, and never give them immediately before or after the walk. It is important that you do not always have the feed at your disposal; If after half an hour you have not wanted to eat, we will remove it until the next feeding. Similarly, you have to be careful with treats between meals, since excessively they can not only disrupt your appetite but also lead to weight gain.

Forbidden food

We must avoid, indisputably, some foods that are really harmful to the body of dogs. As examples we can name coffee, alcohol, dairy, animal bones, fruit bones and seeds, onion, grapes, nuts and chocolate, among others.

Veterinary guide

We insist that the veterinarian is the most suitable person to advise us regarding the feeding of our dog. He will know how to tell us which is the best diet, taking into account the particular conditions of the animal and its medical record.
