Despite being one of the most common pets in the world and the long journey that binds us to it during the last thousands of years, the dog continues to be a mysterious animal in many aspects. 1. No two snouts are alike. The dog's snout is the equivalent of our fingerprints, since each one is unique and unmatched. The small marks that are reflected in this skin fragment are completely different in each dog.
2. Your body temperature is higher than that of human. In a healthy dog it ranges between 38 and 39º.
3. His sense of smell is extraordinary. It is estimated that it is 100.000 times more powerful than that of the human being; they have up to 300 million olfactory cells, compared to our five million. This quality makes up for his sense of sight, which is quite poor compared to ours.
4. The first mammal to go into space was a dog. It was a female named Laika, who was picked up from the street and sent into space in the famous ship named Sputnik. He did not survive the experiment.
5. The Saluki is the oldest breed of dog. It comes from ancient Egypt and was highly valued by high society; in fact, these dogs were mummified after their death. There are documents dated to 2.100 BC that reflect the existence of this race.
6. The dog is the most diverse species.
7. Presents about 100 facial expressions. Most of them refer to the movement of the ears.
8. A dog at home lowers the risk of developing asthma and allergies. This is indicated by scientists after conducting several studies carried out during the last decades.
9. Some dogs are billionaires. There are many cases in which great personalities of high society name their dogs as heirs. In the United States alone, approximately one million dogs have been named heirs to vast fortunes.
10. The largest dog in history was an English Mastiff. He officially acquired this title in 1981. He weighed 155 kg and measured about 2,51 meters from snout to end of tail.
