We all would like to live with a balanced dog, but rarely do we realize that for this we have to be patient and dedicate several training sessions a day from the first moment our friend arrives home. If we don't do it like this, as it grows, it is more than likely that we will need the advice of a trainer or the help of other dogs.
That's why the herd method is an option that may be interesting. But what does it consist of?
Humans, no matter how intelligent we are, are not dogs. They understand each other very well, so much so that they detect much faster than us how they feel, what they think and, in addition, they can anticipate their reactions or behaviors. When we have a furry dog that, for example, does not know well how to relate to other dogs, a balanced dog will be very helpful., as it will serve as an example to follow.
If a trainer tells us about the herd method, he will tell us precisely about this, to join a dog with problems with others who are calm. Thus, little by little, we will see that our furry is acquiring the social skills necessary to coexist with other dogs. In this way, what is achieved is that the walks and the time we are in the dog parks are much more pleasant.
Now, It must be borne in mind that the theory that dogs can be dominant or submissive was denied by the creator himself (can you watch the video here). It is true that they live in social groups, made up of dogs that are the pillars of each of them and that behave as our parents do with us, but nothing more.
Why am I saying this? Because the herd method will only be really useful if the trainer uses positive training techniques, that is to say, respecting the animals; otherwise, the behavior problem that our dog may have can worsen a lot.
