Origin of the breed

Its closest known origin is in Poland, where it was used as a shepherd dog since the Middle Ages. However, some theories claim that its birth dates back to Central Asia, being the result of the cross between long-haired Tibetan dogs and Hungarian braided-haired dogs, so it could be related to breeds such as the Bearded Collie, the Brie Shepherd or the Schapendoes. This dog was probably introduced to Europe thanks to Tibetan traders.

With the arrival of the Second World War, the Polish Plains Dog was close to extinction, with only about 150 specimens left around the world, but thanks to the efforts of some creators it managed to survive. It was in 1959 when the breed was approved by the Polish Kennel Club, although it took until 2001 for it to be admitted by the American Kennel Club.

Behavior

This breed usually has a character dynamic, cheerful and affectionate. He is patient and affectionate with his family, although he is somewhat suspicious of strangers. Somewhat territorial, it is very protective and is constantly alert to possible threats. It tends to be sociable with other animals, although it is recommended to start the socialization process as soon as possible.

He is very intelligent, so he learns training orders quickly. However, it can be somewhat stubborn, which may lead to some problems. In this case, positive reinforcement would be our great ally for your education.

Care

This dog needs good doses of daily exercise to balance your energy and work your muscles. Ideally, you should offer him a total of three walks a day and frequent doses of dog sports such as agility.
