American Eskimo adult.

El american eskimo It is a breed of small dog that stands out for its abundant mane and graceful appearance. We find specimens of medium and miniature size, and they physically stand out for their pointed ears and snout, as well as their large dark and oval eyes. We tell you more about this breed.

It comes from the United States, although due to its German origin, it was originally known as German spitz. In fact, it is descended from the Spitz originating from northern Europe, from which the Americans selected the white specimens that had been transported by the German settlers during the XNUMXth century.

From the result of several crosses, the current breed was born, which would be spread throughout the country thanks to the circus Barnum and Bailey, which included these dogs in its shows. Later, during the First World War and as a consequence of the enmity with the Germans, the Americans decided to highlight their patriotism by renaming the animal as American spitz. It would not be until 1917 when it received the definitive name of American Eskimo.

It is currently a very popular dog as a pet, largely thanks to its character playful, friendly and active. He enjoys the attention and contact with his loved ones, although he often shows an independent attitude. Distrustful of strangers, he has a great knack for learning training orders, but can be a bit stubborn.

Regarding your care, you need good doses of daily exercise, since it has an overflowing energy. In addition, it is convenient that we regularly reinforce the training orders, since this dog tends to lose concentration due to its high level of nerves. It can also become somewhat overbearing. On the other hand, its abundant mane needs frequent brushing, especially during the shedding season.

The Amerikan Eskimo usually in good health, although this breed is associated with certain pathologies, such as joint weakness, hypoglycemia (more common in the Toy), skull malformation, crypochids and monorchids. Their life expectancy ranges between 12 and 14 years.
