Well, something as obvious as this until not long ago was doubtful in the Spanish Congress of Deputies.

Tuesday, December 12, 2017 it was unanimously approved that animals should be considered things and that they become recognized by law as living beings. This means that the Civil Code, the Mortgage Law and the Civil Procedure Law will be modified.

After admission for processing, the reform begins, which although it can be modified with amendments, which have already been announced by some formations, having the support of all the parties the rule is sure to come out soon. In this way, Spain will finally travel the same path as other European countries, such as Germany or Switzerland.

As of the approval of the reform, the animals will have more protection. They will have more rights, which implies that their caregivers must take care of them as they deserve. In addition, precepts aimed at specifying the custody regime for companion animals, always taking into account the interests of family members and the welfare of the animal, will be introduced into the rules relating to matrimonial crises.

The Popular Party too intends to prevent their owners from being seized in the event of non-payment of income. Finally, after much struggle, demonstrations and others, animals are living beings endowed with sensitivity, also for the Congress of Deputies.
