We have already said that it is originally from Australia. However, his popularity has taken him to other more distant lands where there are as many or more specimens than in their land of origin, for example, the United States.

The breed comes from a cross between specimens of the Australian Shepherd and several types of poodle, for which it is considered a hybrid and hence it is known as the Australian poodle, Aussiedoodle or Aussiepoo, all of them are a mixture that alludes to both races. It should be noted that, as with hybrid breeds, this breed of dog does not have the recognition of independent race granted by international organizations.

Characteristics of the Aussiedoodle

This is a breed where the sizes of the specimens are not always the same, since they will depend on the type of poodle with which they have been crossed. To make it clearer there are toy poodles, medium poodles and pygmy poodles, then if the cross is between an Australian shepherd and a toy poodle, the result will be a much smaller specimen whose weight will range between 11 and 31 kg, with 25 to 45 centimeters tall and average life of between 12 and 15 years.

The musculature in this breed is developed, flexible and well distributed in a well-proportioned body, they have an elongated snout and a very fine special characteristic that allows them to easily reach the truffles. His eyes are really striking and expressive whose color is mostly brown although we can get them with amber eyes and with one eye of a different color from the other (Heterochromia).

The tail is curved as well as straight and the ears are medium and erect. The fur of these dogs is dense, curly and medium longOne of the benefits of these is that they are considered hypoallergenic because they do not produce dandruff and therefore there is no risk for allergy sufferers.

You are going to adore him in his puppy stage as he certainly is active, affectionate, learns very fast and pays attention, but without falling into the excesses of some races that nibble and do damage due to lack of attention; this is not going to happen to you with your Aussiedoodle.

Their friendly character will allow them to adapt very well to the company of other animals at home, even better if they are presented from a young age and since they are very curious with everything around them, It is important that you introduce him to the family so that they feel comfortable. It is at this stage when you can take advantage of their training in very simple matters such as where to relieve themselves or socialize so that they learn to abide by the rules of the house.

They like to learn what, together with their docile character, facilitates the work of the tutor or coach.

They adapt very easily to all types of habitat, in this sense it is indifferent if you live in a large house, an apartment, in a field, in the city, etc., since These will fit the space and environment without problems.  Although it must be said that due to its active nature it is very convenient to offer them a space where they can exercise and play daily if not inside the house, let it be outside since it is a way for them to use so much energy and stay healthy.

Although it is true that dogs generally have to be started with the socialization process from a very young age, in the case of the Aussiedoodle it does not require so much emphasis, since It is a very sociable and affectionate breed by nature and that he does not hesitate to express and give affection to everyone around him, children, adults or other pets, in fact, they greatly facilitate good relationships.

When we decide to bring a dog of this breed to the house, it is important to know what are basic care since not all races have the same needs. In the case of the Aussiepoo, you have to focus on food, exercise and physical activities.

With regard to food, remember that it is a very active breed and therefore requires a lot of energy to carry out its activities, in this sense you must provide a healthy diet in accordance with its energy and nutritional demands, if you do not know which food is adequate, consult it with the veterinarian although the most appropriate is a feed of high quality.

The very characteristic of active specimens is what makes the daily physical exercise that goes beyond a walk, it is necessary to promote agility games or circuits that enhance their intelligence and make them use up much more energy.

Regarding the fur and the skin, they do not need more care, only certain attentions depending on whether the coat is similar to that of poodles, in which case it will need to be brushed once a day every two days maximum. Also it is advisable to cut their hair every 8 to 12 weeks. Now, if the coat is like that of the Australian Shepherd, they should only brush it periodically.
