Obesity is an increasingly common problem in our pets, especially in cats and also in dogs. And, as in us, excess fat can harm the health of our friends, even leading them to have breathing problems, since the fat that is not eliminated, accumulates and can prevent, in severe cases, the normal functioning of the lungs.
As we can see, it is not a trivial matter. So without further ado, let's see how to avoid being overweight in dogs.
Give him the amount of food that he needs
This is very important. Do not give more food than necessary, or let it "peck" between meals. In the event that we make him sniff (throw dog treats, sausages or other food to work his nose), we have to put a little less of his feed, since otherwise it will be as if we had given him the ration for a day and a half, or two days. And this once nothing happens, but ... over time, we could end up having an overweight furry.
Make him exercise
Exercise, both physical and mental, is essential for the dog to remain balanced, happy, and in line. Therefore, you have to take it out for a walk between 4 and 6 times a day. But of course, sometimes for work reasons we can't spend so much time on walks, so you can choose to take him out for a long walk (more than 30 minutes) and then play with him at home.
Games at home
Besides the sniffing sessions, which will help you not only to stay entertained, but also to be calmer during the day, there are other things we can do. For example: play to throw the ball at him, give him a teether rope and let him pull us (by the way, we will strengthen our own arm muscles 🙂), buy an interactive toy and play with it ...
In this way, we are sure to prevent our dog from being overweight 😉.
