Basic care of the Lhasa Apso

Lhasa Apso.

El Lhasa apso It is one of the most striking small breed dogs thanks to its friendly appearance and its funny character. Originally from Tibet, today it is one of the most common pets, famous for its friendly, playful behavior and for its beautiful fur. Although she is generally in good health, she needs some basic care; we talk about them in this post.

This breed gets its name from the capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region, Lhasa, where it originates from. There she was raised for years by monks and nobles from about 800 BC It was considered a sacred symbol, since it was said that it welcomed the soul of its owner when he died. In fact, its relevance was such that in the XNUMXth century the Dalai Lama even gifted the United States with a specimen, thereby gaining great international fame.

This dog is usually in good health, and is very resistant to changes in temperature, possibly thanks to the thousands of years it has lived in Tibet. However, it needs, like all races, certain care. For example, his eyes are very delicate, so it requires daily cleaning. We will do it with two cottons soaked in warm water, removing the dirt very gently.

Furthermore, the Lhasa apso has a great appetite, being also calm and homey. It is because of that tends to gain weight, and therefore, it is convenient that we take long daily walks with him and offer him high-quality, low-calorie feed, making sure that he eats the right amount.

In addition, its long and dense fur requires frequent brushing to avoid tangling and skin irritation. We will have to use a soft bristle brush, especially for long-haired dogs, and pass it very carefully over the entire body, without pulling, and paying special attention to the whiskers and legs. It is also recommended to use a conditioner when we bathe it.
