From time to time there is very good news, like the one that happens this summer regarding the dog friendly beaches. Now it is also possible to find them in Galicia, specifically in O Grove, province of Pontevedra. The beaches chosen are Playa de Canelas and Playa Con Negro. The initiative was promoted by the animal protectors of the area, who saw this right as a necessity for all pet owners. Finally, the O Grove City Council gave in to the request, enabling these two beaches.
Previously, taking your dog to the beach during the summer months (June-September) could be fined up to 600 euros. This regulation was met especially in the blue flag beaches, which are quite abundant in the area, since they constitute a great tourist value. The owners were forced to leave their pets at home, denying them the right to enjoy a day of sun and sand, something that was seen as unfair.
This summer it is already possible to visit these two dog friendly beaches, which have very interesting features for pets. They are in a natural environment, with little proximity to cars, something that increases the safety of our furry ones. In addition, the City Council has placed signs to indicate where these beaches are, as well as the rules that must be followed so that coexistence is pleasant. The basic rules suppose to have controlled the pet so that it does not cause conflicts or annoy other users, and to collect the depositions.
If in your area there is still no beach where you can enjoy with your dog, you should know that it is possible to get it. It is this body that decides in each place whether to enable sandbanks for this use, so there are still many battles to win.
