Big dogs in small flats: myths and truths

We often hear that large dogs cannot adapt to living in a small space; Nothing is further from reality. Lor really fundamental for the well-being of a pet is not the size of the floor in which he lives, but the education and affection he receives from his owners.

An indisputable truth is that a dog needs exercise, whatever its size. Depending on its breed and energy, it will need more or less high doses of physical activity, but this is totally independent of the size of the animal. What's more, there large breeds very calm character, like the Pyrenean Mastiff, while other small dogs, like the Fox Terrier, require a lot of exercise.

A large dog demands the same attention as a small one. Both must walk equally, receive the same vaccinations, play with their owners and socialize with each other. Both also need a correct education to avoid inappropriate behavior, sometimes large breeds respond more positively to this training.

The same goes for dog hygiene. Depending on the character and hair of the animal, it will take us more or less time to untangle and wash it. Once again we see how size has the least influence on the care of our pet.

Each breed has its advantages and disadvantages. For example, it is true that a tall dog will reach certain objects in the house that a small one could not, being able to bite them or throw them by accident with the tail. For this reason we have to adapt our house to the type of pet with which we are going to live. We must also bear in mind that food costs are higher.

For all this, the size of a dog should not be inconvenient when it comes to welcoming him into our home; the important thing is that you receive the necessary care, which are practically the same as those required by small breeds.
