Cold symptoms in dogs

As in people, cold can cause cold in dogs, whose symptoms are very similar to ours. However, they are sometimes difficult to diagnose, as their signs can easily be mistaken for other problems. For this reason, it is important that we know well how this disease manifests itself in our pet.

The term veterinarians use is upper respiratory infection, and is caused by viruses similar to those that affect humans, although they are not the same. Dogs can also infect each other, and require medical treatment to prevent the constipation from worsening.

The first symptom is usually constant sneezing, accompanied by an abundant mucus. Coughing and a sore throat, which can lead to mild vomiting, is also common. Likewise, breathing difficulties are very common, manifested through loud breaths and small whistles.

Our dog may lose his appetite when he is cold, since you will feel a significant general discomfort. Your energy level will decrease and he will show down, tired and sad. Your eyes may also be more watery than usual, and you may have a headache. It will manifest this last symptom by fleeing from noisy areas and light. Finally, you may have a few tenths of a fever.

Before these symptoms it is necessary that we go to a veterinarian so you can administer the proper medications. He usually prescribes an antibiotic treatment, especially if the cause of the constipation is bacteria. If the virus has affected the stomach of the animal, it will be necessary to follow a soft diet for a few days and even give it a stomach protector.
We should never give our dog medicines suitable for humans, or make him take medication without first consulting with a trusted veterinarian. Otherwise, we could cause an overdose in the animal's body, leading to serious consequences.
