Common mistakes in dog care

Welcoming a pet requires effort and sacrifice, as we are the most responsible for their physical and emotional well-being. However, despite trying to make everything perfect, we are likely to be wrong. If we don't fix these failures quickly, they can lead to serious problems. Therefore, we summarize some of the most common mistakes among dog owners regarding their care.

1. Poor nutrition. In order to save money, some people choose to feed their dog leftovers or poor quality feed. This means that the animal does not acquire the necessary nutrients to grow healthy and strong. Dry feed is the best option, although it must be high-end; never private label or supermarket. As for food "for humans", the dog can take it but in moderation, and of course it does not contain toxic substances for him (salt, oil, caffeine, etc.). And of course, you should never offer him cooked bones, as they are highly dangerous for him.

2. Take a little walk. Depending on the energy level of the dog, we will have to walk it for more or less time. The ideal is to do it in three sessions of half an hour, although many people limit themselves to a few minutes. This is a very serious and yet very common mistake, which can cause not only behavioral problems, but also muscle and bone weakness.

3. Let the dog dominate the walk. We are the ones who have to lead the walks, so that he learns to respect our orders. Experts recommend that we accustom the animal to walk by our side, without pulling the leash and calmly. Sometimes it is necessary to turn to a professional to help us control the situation.

4. Lack of socialization. This process is easier during the first months of life, but the truth is that we can also solve socialization problems in adult dogs, contrary to what is sometimes believed. For this we must gradually expose the animal to contact with other people and members of its species. A trainer can teach us to do it properly.

5. Not updating legal documents. It is essential that we keep the information that legally identifies our pet up to date, such as its veterinary card and the data corresponding to its microchip. This will greatly facilitate your search in case of theft or loss.
