Do you like small dogs that you can hold in your arms without getting tired? If you are also looking for a sociable, intelligent and calm furry by nature the Czech terrier can quickly become your best friend.

Dare to know this magnificent canine breed that makes both young and old fall in love. 😉

Origin and history of the Czech Terrier

The Czech Terrier learns quickly

Our protagonist is a breed of dogs that was created in 1948 by the Czech Frantisek Horák. This man crossed a Scottish Sealyham bitch with a Scottish Terrier in order to obtain a terrier that could hunt in the forests of Bohemia (Czech Republic). Later, in 1963, it was recognized as an international breed by the International Cynological Federation.

His success has been in crescendo and to this day all clubs recognize it for what it is: a terrier breed. Very rare, yes, but breed after all.

Physical characteristics

It is a dog whose elongated head and thick beard are very striking. Its body is solid but light, and it is covered by a layer of wavy and silky hair which can be various shades of gray and blue, white, yellow or light brown. Anyway, you should know that puppies are born black. The color will be defined in the first two years of life.

The male dog weighs 8kg and is 30 centimeters tall, and the female weighs 7kg and 28cm tall. It has a life expectancy of 12 to 15 years.

Behavior and personality

The Czech Terrier it is a calm, sociable and cheerful dog, but somewhat reserved with strangers. He really enjoys the company of his human family, whom he will love madly, especially if they remember to take him out for a walk every day and give him the odd prize in the form of a candy or toy 🙂.

Czech Terrier care

Food

Feeding the Czech Terrier It should be based on giving him food according to his nutritional needs; That is, as it is a carnivore, the most natural thing is to give it fresh meat. But not only that, but it is also important to give him some vegetables so that the Barf Diet is correct, and for that the ideal is to consult with a dog nutritionist.

An alternative to the Barf diet is the Yum Diet, which is sold as chunks (like rectangular blocks) frozen with all the ingredients crushed and mixed together. Once defrosted, they can be heated a bit in the microwave, or served directly. And if you prefer to give him something that is economical but still healthy, it is advisable to give him cereal-free feed.

Hygiene

If you want your furry to be radiant, you have to remember to give him a bath once a month. In the event that one day you go to the countryside for example and you come home dirty, it is advisable to clean your hair with a dry shampoo, although if it is full of mud, do not hesitate: take it - gently - and wash it well with water and dog shampoo.

After each bath, and actually once a day, you have to brush it using a card for example. Before using it, show it to him first and let him smell it. As you brush, speak softly to him. With this you will get that he does not associate it with something bad.

Regarding the eyes and ears, take advantage of those moments when they are calm to check them, and clean them if you see that they are dirty.

Exercise

It is important that the Czech Terrier does some type of exerciseKeep busy, otherwise you could end up misbehaving. For example, if he becomes very bored because his family does not play with him or take him out for walks, he could start destroying the furniture or poking holes in the garden.

So, to avoid this, remember to take him out for a walk and keep him company.

"Salud"

It is a breed that has a predisposition to Scotty Cramp, which is a problem that causes awkward movement. It is not fatal, but it does require veterinary monitoring. In addition, you should not forget to take it to be vaccinated, as well as to have the microchip put on it.

And in case you don't want him to breed, shell him at 6 to 8 months of age.
