Differences between the French Bulldog and the English Bulldog

English bulldog.

The Bulldog They have their origin in England, where they were originally used to fight bulls. It was in the XNUMXth century when this practice was banned, but the breeding of this breed continued. Currently their physique and characteristics are somewhat different, and there are three different types of this breed: American, French and English. In this post we analyze the differences between the latter two.

1. The size. It is probably the most striking detail. The French Bulldog is much smaller than the English, measuring approximately 30 cm tall and weighing about 14 kg. The second, on the contrary, can rise to 40 cm in height and weigh 30 kg.

2. Origin. As its name suggests, the English Bulldog was born in England and the French one originated in the country to which it refers. It is said that about 200 years ago English textile workers migrated to France seeking employment, taking their dogs with them. Hence, a variant of this breed derives from another.

3. The double chin. The English Bulldog has a striking dewlap, absent in the French Bulldog.

4. Health. The French Bulldog is somewhat more resistant, while the English Bulldog's health is more delicate. This usually has more respiratory problems than the first, is less active and can withstand heat worse.

5. The character. The French Bulldog is nervous, sometimes even being a bit rebellious. He is usually playful and affectionate, and very loyal to his family. The English Bulldog, in general, is calmer, and can tolerate physical exercise worse.

6. The ears. Those of the English Bulldog are small, bent and very thin; however, the French Bulldog's ears are erect, broad-based and pointed.

7. The skin. The English Bulldog has many more folds than the French, so it requires special attention when bathing it. It is very important that we dry these folds well so that they do not suffer irritations.
