There are different theories about its origin, although it is believed to be a descendant of the Peruvian Hairless Dog. There is evidence that this dog was already present in the South American country during the XNUMXth century. It is said that it was used by the Incas as gifts for neighboring populations in order to improve relations between them. It was not until the early XNUMXth century that this breed began to become popular in Argentina.

There are three different sizes of the Argentine Pila Dog: small (between 25 and 35 cm high at the withers), medium (35 to 45 cm) and large (greater than 45 cm). Their skin and hair can be of various colors, the most common being black and brown.

This breed usually has excellent health, above all thanks to the fact that it has not been artificially manipulated by humans and has been behind centuries of natural selection. It is very resistant to diseases such as hepatitis or parvovirus, although it is not immune. However, as it has hardly any hair, it requires specific care for its skin, as it is prone to irritations and skin conditions.
