There are many dogs that end up leaving the garden full of holes, as if we were before an archaeological excavation. Many owners may find it amusing to see their dog poking holes, although in general no one likes that the dog ends the beauty of the garden by digging every day. However, it is better to know the reasons why they do this.
Having the dog poke holes in the garden may not be a bad thing. Obviously, if we do not like him to do it, we will have to remedy him, giving him other entertainment, or trying to educate him when he is doing it. But this is another story, as now we want to know why do they put holes in as if it were the most interesting thing in the world.
There are many breeds that are already predisposed to do this job. Breeds that, for example, are used to hunt small animals, can spend the day searching for them underground at the slightest noise or smell. Others, like the Siberian Husky, do it because they are breeds that usually live outdoors, and it is the way to make a refuge. For them, the land is cool in summer, and provides warmth and shelter in winter when it snows, so it's kind of like making a bed.
In other dogs, the instinct to put away your things, so they bury toys and even food. In these cases we will see the earth removed, not the holes, and if we search we will surely find some of its hidden treasures.
The worst case is when dogs drill holes out of sheer anxiety. They are nervous and do not do all the physical exercise they should because their owners do not provide it by taking them out for a walk, and that is why they do other physical activities, such as biting and breaking things and making holes. In these cases we must try to give them other entertainment so that they get tired.
