Giant George, the largest dog in history

Giant George with his owner, Dave Nasser.

In October 2013 he passed away Giant george, a Great Dane considered the largest dog in the world. At 1,09 meters tall and weighing 11 kg, this huge dog was officially recognized by the Guiness Book, thanks to which it acquired great worldwide fame, even having its own profile on social networks. Four years later, we remember his life and pay tribute to this endearing "giant".

Giant George was the American's pet and best friend Dave nasser, who told the press that “we never thought we were buying the biggest dog in the world. He weighed only 17 pounds when I first saw him. " Both lived in Tucson (Arizona), where the animal was transferred after being acquired through an advertisement published in a newspaper.

At first, the new family of the dog did not notice anything strange in its appearance, until the moment when Nasser, walking through a zoo, he realized that his own dog was bigger than some animals. George was bigger even than the lions they had on display. It was then that I was wondering if it really could be the largest dog in the world, "he says.

Thus, on February 15, 2010, he would be officially named the largest dog in the world by the Guinness Book of Records, with a height of 1.092 meters, a length of 2,1 meters from head to tail and a weight of 111 kg. For this reason, he would also be crowned the tallest living dog on the planet. Such was its size, that it consumed about 50 kilos of food a month.

It didn't take Giant George long to get the attention of media. He was the star guest on such popular shows as "Oprah Winfrey Show," "Good Morning America," and "Live with Regis and Kelly," quickly conquering audiences. In fact, he went on to inaugurate his own web page and social networks. Also, in 2011 a book based on his life was published: "Giant George: life with the World's biggest Dog".

Giant George was another member of the family, which Nasser defined as "gentle." Despite its enormous size, the dog was extremely careful with its owners' child when it was just a newborn baby. He slept in his own queen-size bed, although he loved lying on the rug. He loved golf cart rides and was kind and loving with the others, although he avoided the other dogs. Obedient and calm, he had a phobia of water, which made cleaning him difficult.

He passed away in 2013, shortly before his eighth birthday. Currently, both his website and his social networks are still active, as this big man is still alive in the heart of the public. Shortly after another Great Dane named Zeus took his place by being named the largest dog in the world at 8 meters tall and more than 1,11 meters long. After his death in 2 and until today, the title would become Major, another Great Dane of 1,25 meters in height and 2,14 meters in length.
