How is the grief in dogs?

Sad dog

All of us who have lived or lived with dogs know how sociable they can be. They have loved each other so much that, even among themselves, they are capable of establishing a very strong relationship, to the point that, when someone is missing, the one who stays has a very bad time.

How can we help you overcome the loss? It is not easy, especially if we take into account that we ourselves will surely be very sad, but for it to be at least a little bit I will offer to explain what grief is like in dogs and how can we encourage them.

How is the grief in dogs?

Dogs that have just lost a friend, be it human or furry, the first few days can be very, very bad. They will not feel like going out for a walk, but will prefer to stay at home, perhaps in their bed or the one where the deceased slept.. Nor will they really want to eat, much less play.

In these sad moments, they are going to need us much more than they have ever needed us. We can't leave them alone, because our absence could worsen their condition.

What can I do to help you?

The most important thing, although at the beginning it costs a lot, is go on with the routine everything possible. We must continue with our life, that is, have breakfast, lunch and dinner at the same time as always, clean the house as we did,… in short, we have to continue with our life. In this way, we will let the dog understand that, even though we are going through a very tough stage, we will be able to move forward.

In addition, you have to try to get him to eat. During the first day if he does not want to eat, we will not force him, but from the second and, especially on the third, we have to try to get him to eat something. If he does not, we will try to give him wet dog food, which has a more intense smell that will stimulate his appetite, rice with chicken meat (boneless).

With the walks we will do the same as with the food; namely, if you do not want to go out the first few times, we will not go out, but it is highly advisable to take you out for a walk, even if it's ten or twenty minutes. Feeling the air, other smells, seeing other people and other dogs, it will do very well to overcome the ground. Likewise, you should not leave him alone.

As the days go by, you will feel better.
