Characteristics of the Podenco
"Podenco" is the name given to a hunting dog of ancient origin, specifically it is believed to come from Ancient Egypt. Its appearance is quite reminiscent of a jackal, or the image of the Egyptian god Anubis that we can see in the tombs of the pharaohs.
There are different types of Podencos, but the International Cynological Federation has only recognized five: Cimeco del Etna, Podenco Canaria, Podenco Ibicenco, Pharaoh hound and Portuguese Podenco. All of them have in common their slim, athletic body, with raised and pointed ears and their tail, which is almost half that of their back, and their weight of between 20 and 26kg.
