History of the Afghan Hound

The origin of this breed is located in Afghanistan, in the year 1000 BC. C. At that time it was used as a hunting dog, mainly hares, gazelles, jackals, wolves and deer. In 1880, when the war between the Afghans and the British ended, some of these precious dogs were taken home by British army officers, as they had been surprised by their hunting skills.

In 1920 he arrived in England, where he was so successful that was recognized by the Kennel club just six years later.

Physical characteristics

The Afghan Hound is a very elegant animal: tall and thin, with a refined head. Weighs about 27kg and measures between 68 and 73cm. His eyes are dark, almond-colored. The ears are lowered, resting on the head. The muzzle is elongated, with a black nose, and its teeth bite in the shape of a scissor. The body is protected with a long, silky and abundant coat of hair that can be of any color.
