History of the German pointer
The story of our protagonist begins around 1800, in Germany. At that time hunters wanted a versatile dog, capable of hunting all kinds of small prey, either by water or by land. After several selections, in 1897, thanks to Prince Albrecht de Solms-Braünfels, the characteristics of the breed were established, the rules of morphology judgment and, also, the basic rules of work trials for hunting dogs.
Currently, the German shorthaired pointer is a versatile hunting dog, able to work for their caregiver even when they are old.
Physical characteristics
It is a large breed dog. The male weighs about 30kg and is between 62 and 66cm tall; the female weighs about 25kg and measures between 58 and 63cm. The body is slender and is protected by a layer of hair that can be short or long. The head is large and broad, with the ears drooping to the sides. The legs are robust and the tail is short.
Has a life expectancy of 12 to 14 years.
