Zeal in dogs is a delicate moment, especially when you don't want them to breed. It can often be very difficult to know when they are going through this stage, as in the case of males it sometimes goes unnoticed.
To avoid surprises, it is important to know how often are the dogs in heat. So you can have them controlled and take the necessary measures.
How jealous are bitches for the first time?
The furry ones can have the heat very soon, around six months of age. I know, they are still very young, and in fact it is not recommended that they get pregnant until they are one year old, as their body has not yet fully developed. Even so, you should know that it may take or more or less depending on the race, the genetic inheritance, the environment in which it lives, and of course the season of the year in which it is, since they normally go into heat in the warm months of the year.
How do I know if my dog is in heat?
This is a question that has several answers, and it is that heat in female dogs and dogs is very different:
Zeal in bitches
We can know that bitches are in heat if:
- They become somewhat more loving than normal.
- Urinate more frequently during walks.
- Their breasts may swell a bit.
Zeal in dogs
We can know that dogs are in heat if:
- They are more restless and nervous.
- They even become aggressive towards other dogs in the presence of a female dog in heat.
- It marks with the urine wherever it passes.
Can you do anything to prevent them from being in heat?
Of course: sterilize them. With sterilization, their reproductive glands are removed, thus preventing them from having heat and offspring.
The most recommended age to operate them is around 6-8 months for females and 8-10 months for males.
Zeal is a stage that, taking into account the number of stray and abandoned dogs that there are, it is highly advisable to avoid them.
