How often are puppies dewormed?
The puppies they must be dewormed before the first vaccination, administering a syrup between 21 and 30 days of life that the veterinarian will recommend. Later, we will have to deworm them again about 15 days before each vaccination.
From six months of age, if we live in a city and do not go to the countryside, every 3 or 4 months will be enough; otherwise, it will be advisable to deworm them every month.
How often are adult dogs dewormed?
It will depend on where the dog spends the most time. If you are outdoors or have a lot of contact with other dogs or with the field, they will have to be dewormed on a monthly basis; otherwise, every 3 or 4 months will suffice.
What antiparasitic to use?
In veterinary clinics and pet stores we will find these different types of antiparasitics:
- Necklace: it is placed as if it were a normal necklace. Once put, the antiparasitic substance is released throughout the body, thus keeping it protected from external parasites. It can be effective for 1 to 6 months, depending on the brand.
- Pipette: it is like a transparent plastic bottle inside which is the antiparasitic liquid. It is placed at the back of the neck, and, if the animal is large, also at the base of the tail. It can be effective from 3 weeks to 1 month depending on the brand, and it can protect only against external parasites or, also, against internal ones.
- Sprays: the antiparasitic spray can be used whenever necessary. The animal's hair must be sprayed taking care that the product does not come into contact with the eyes, mouth or nose. Eliminate external parasites.
- Syrups and lozenges: they are administered mainly in puppies to eliminate internal parasites. The vet will tell us how often we can give it to him (usually it will be once a month or every four months).
