If there is something that all of us who live with dogs do not want, it is that our furry friends end up having fleas and / or ticks on their body. They cause them a lot of discomfort, and also can transmit diseases, like Lyme's.
Fortunately, today we have many antiparasitic products that will keep them away. But what are there? Read on to know how to prevent fleas and ticks.
Antiparasitics to prevent fleas and ticks
In pet stores and veterinary clinics we can find 4 types of antiparasitics: pipettes, collars, sprays and pills.
Pipettes
They apply once a month, at the back of the neck (at the junction between the head and the back) and at the base of the tail. If it is a large dog, one or two drops are also put right in the middle of the back, so that the product protects its entire body as quickly as possible.
It is especially recommended if our friend spends time in the garden, or if we take him for long walks in the countryside.
Necklaces
Antiparasitic collars must be placed around the neck, and are effective for 1 to 8 months, depending on the brand. They are very useful when we do not want to put pipettes on the dog, but we want it to be very well protected against external parasites.
Sprays
Sprays have the advantage that they can be applied whenever necessary, and they are quite inexpensive. To apply it, head has to be protected to prevent the product from coming into contact with the ears, nose, mouth and eyes.
Pills
They are used when the dog has a major flea infestation. To avoid taking unnecessary risks, it is important that the vet recommends the most appropriate one for our friend.
Other ways to prevent fleas and ticks
In addition to what we have seen so far, there are other things you can do to prevent these parasites, and they are:
- Wash your dog once a month with insecticidal shampoo.
