With the arrival of summer, it is time to enjoy a little different with the dog. As the temperatures rise, you really want to take a dip, so whenever you can, it is highly recommended go to the beach or the pool with our four-legged friend.
But how to avoid problems? This time, we will see how to take care of my dog in summer.
As in summer it is much hotter than in any other season of the year, we must make some changes in our daily routine, which are:
- Instead of going for a walk at any time of the day, it is important that in summer you do it alone or early morning or evening. Think that sidewalks and, above all, asphalt, absorb a lot of heat, so you could suffer damage to your pads.
- Always take one with you bottle of water and a drinking fountain for the dog, especially if you go on excursions or take long walks.
- If you take it by car, never leave him alone. A closed car acts like a greenhouse, absorbing heat causing the temperature to rise very quickly. Dogs should never be left in cars, much less with the windows closed and without any water.
- Put some antiparasitic to prevent fleas, ticks and mites from bothering you. This is the time when they are most active.
In these months the risk of heat stroke increases considerably. To avoid suffering one, it is important to avoid taking him out in the middle of the day, and to make sure he drinks plenty of water. In addition, you can give him ice cream for dogs from time to time, and of course, let him take a dip in the pool.
Even so, if you see that your dog is lethargic, dizzy and / or even vomits, you should immediately take it to a cool area, and put fresh towels (not cold) over it. In this way, your body temperature will drop. Once he's recovered, don't hesitate to take him to the vet for a checkup.
