How to train a German Shepherd

German shepherd

The German Shepherd has proven to be very loyal and very intelligent. For this reason, it is also one of the breeds that most like to learn and work. Now, we must also take into account that they get bored easily, and if we have a bored dog for a long time, behavior problems will soon arise.

As there is no better remedy than prevention, let's see how to train a german shepherd.

When we want to train a dog, regardless of its breed or if it is mongrel, it is always recommended to start when the animal is at least two months old. And you always have to go little by little: until you have learned one thing that we want to teach you (for example, the command "sit"), we will not move on to the next. In the specific case of the German Shepherd, we also have to make sure that socialize properly with other dogs and people, as they can be very protective. To do this, you have to take him out for a walk when he has at least the first vaccination, and letting him get close to the dogs.

Another important point is that you let yourself be touched. You have to think that it will be a large dog, so if we do not educate it well, the animal can misbehave and do things that we do not want. Therefore, from the first day you have to touch it, as if we were brushing it, and examine its legs, ears, teeth, well, its entire body. Finally, we will give you a prize for their good behavior.

To avoid future problems, it is advisable that we send him a command (for example, "sit" or "stay") before putting the feeder on the floor. If you have not learned them yet, then we will also leave the plate on the floor, and we will stroke it two or three times while you eat. You must learn that the food is yours and that no one is going to take it away (not even us), and therefore you don't need to be aggressive or anything like that.

You can also feed him directly from your hand the first few times, but it is preferable that the dog can eat from his plate, since otherwise it may happen that become very dependent on you to the point that they only want you to give them the food.

The German Shepherd is a dog that needs to work and, above all, having a good time. Make his training like a game for him, reinforcing his good behavior with treats and treats for dogs, and encouraging him to continue (unless he is already tired, of course 🙂). So both of you will build an unforgettable friendship.
