Especially if they are short distances, it is often common to fall into the error that the animal may be on the ground, but in addition to being mandatory, it is much safer for both the driver and the dog himself if he is in the back seats, wearing a harness with two hooks and a seat belt that we can buy in any pet store, at least.
If it is a nervous dog, it may be more advisable to keep it in a carrier and put a dividing grid (we will also find it in the aforementioned stores) that prevents it from interfering with the driver.
What to do before leaving? And meanwhile?
Before leaving it is advisable to follow these tips:
- Do not feed him for at least 2 hours before, as you could get dizzy and end up vomiting.
- Take him for a walk and exercise. This way you will be calmer and more relaxed, and you will be able to enjoy the journey more.
- If the trip lasts more than two hours, it is important to make stops every 2h so you can stretch your legs and walk around a bit.
