Dogs often suffer injuries that can be caused by other animals or by a simple friction with a sharp object. Especially if they are hyperactive, the risk of something like this happening to them is high. It is very difficult to prevent them from ending up with small cuts from time to time in their life. Taking this into account, it is convenient to have our First aid kit to heal our furry ones.
So let's see how to treat a wound to my dog.
The first thing to do is look closely at the wound to know how bad it is. In order to do it well, it is important that we are calm, since this way we will transmit that feeling to our friend and it will be much easier to examine it. Even so, if you see that he is very nervous, do not hesitate to ask for help from a second person, who will be in charge of holding him - gently but firmly.
If the wound bleeds a lot, or if there has been a fracture, the animal should be taken to the vet. During the journey, the wound must be pressed with a bandage or a clean cloth. In the case of a minor wound, it can be cured at home as follows:
- With scissors previously disinfected with pharmacy alcohol, the hair of the affected area has to be cut.
- Then, with a gauze pad soaked in warm soapy water, the wound will be cleaned.
- Now it must be disinfected with iodine diluted in water, in a 1:10 ratio (one part iodine and ten part water). To do this, a new gauze must be used.
- Finally, you have to let the wound air out. In order for it to heal as soon as possible, it is important that the dog wears an Elizabethan collar.
Easy right? Non-bleeding wounds can be healed without going to the vet, thus avoiding having to give him a hard time. But remember that if it bleeds, it is important that you take it to be healed there.
