For many of us, dogs are part of our family, and for this reason we want them to enjoy the highest quality of life. For this to be possible they need a series of care for our part that cover topics as broad as diet, physical exercise and mood. We summarize it below.
Adequate nutrition
Your diet should be rich in vitamins, minerals, and nutrients, to avoid certain diseases and keep your bones and muscles strong. The best thing is to opt for a quality feed whose ingredients are as natural as possible. In this sense, it is essential to carefully read the ingredients on the container and ask your veterinarian for his opinion. We must also provide some complementary foods to the animal, such as fresh turkey, cooked chicken, carrot or apple.
On the other hand, we have to adapt the dose of daily food to the size and characteristics of our dog. It is also recommended to divide it into three servings to promote good digestion: breakfast, lunch and dinner. With this simple trick we prevent problems as serious as stomach torsion.
Good hygiene
The dog's hair, skin, eyes, teeth and ears can be seriously damaged if they do not have the necessary hygiene. Lack of hygiene leads to skin irritations, conjunctivitis and parasites, among other problems. The teeth deserve special attention, as oral infections can lead to stomach or gastrointestinal diseases.
Equally harmful is excess hygiene. Must bathe our dog every month and a half or two months, never before, as we could harm the pH of your skin. In addition, we have to use products specifically designed for these animals: toothpaste, shampoo, brush ... The vet will know how to tell us which ones are appropriate.
Moderate exercise
The daily walks are essential for the physical and mental well-being of our furry. This is how we help you control your anxiety, strengthen your joints, and improve your heart rate. Let's think that walks are a great stimulus for dogs in every way. The same goes for games, which pose real challenges for them while allowing us to teach them training orders.
Precautions
Every day we expose ourselves to certain dangers and our dogs, too. Thus we must take precautionary measures to avoid accidents. For example, always walk on a leash to prevent them from escaping or being run over, leave substances that could harm them (alcohol, chocolate, coffee, etc.) out of their reach, or never leave them alone inside the car.
On the other hand, we have to protect the animal with suitable antiparasitic products, such as pipettes, necklaces or sprays. This is essential for your health; we must bear in mind the danger that currently exists against diseases such as leishmaniasis.
Veterinary checks
Frequent veterinary check-ups are absolutely necessary for the health of the animal. Through vaccines and the intervention of professionals we prevent diseases and we detect them in time. If we want our pet to stay healthy, we must not skimp on expenses.
All of this makes more sense when the dog reaches adulthood. Geriatric check-ups are highly recommended from the age of six in the large breeds and from the age of eight in the small ones.
Love
It is as important as the rest of the care. Dogs are empathetic and sensitive animals that need the affection of their own to be happy. It is very important to offer caresses, kind words and constant attention.
Small details such as talking to them or letting them sleep next to us promote a good emotional state, which in turn improves their health. Let's not forget that they are always willing to give us their unconditional love, so we must reciprocate in the same way.
