Main differences between Bichon Frize and Bichon Maltese

Maltese Bichon.

Among the canine breeds we find some enormously similar. This is the case, for example, of Maltese Bichon and Bichon Frize. Both are small, with long, white fur and lop-eared, somewhat difficult to distinguish. However, there are some differences that separate the two races; we just have to watch them carefully to notice them.

To begin with, the most striking difference between the two is hair. The Bichon Frize has a dense, curly coat, similar to that of a Poodle. It has a fluffier touch and its length does not reach that of the Maltese mane. The latter, on the other hand, has finer, longer and straighter hair, similar to that of a Yorkshire Terrier but white in color.

This also creates some distinctions regarding your care. The Frize requires that we brush it regularly with a special brush for curly hair, while the Maltese Bichon needs a daily brushing with a straight hair comb. And is that unlike the first, this breed sheds its coat, which makes it essential that we often remove the hair that it shed and that tends to get tangled.

Regarding size and weight, the Bichon Frize is Older than him adult Maltese bichon, since it weighs around 5 kg and measures 25 cm in height, while the second stands at 3 kg in weight and 20 cm in height. In any case, neither of them reaches great stature.

As for the color, both are completely white in general, but the Frisé can present a slight yellow or peach shade, always very light. The Maltese Bichon, on the other hand, can show a small shadow around the ears.

Finally, we must differentiate the characteristics of your character. The Maltese is said to have a more developed protective instinct, although the truth is that both breeds are fun, friendly and familiar. If there are behavioral problems, they are usually related to his excess of nervousness.
