One of the most difficult situations that we can face as dog managers, is a fight among them. A conflict of this type can lead to serious consequences such as injuries and other injuries, since just a few seconds are enough to cause great damage. This is why it is important that we know how to stop the problem.
Prevention
Ideally, prevent the two dogs from ever starting the fight. For this we must carefully observe the type of interaction that our pet has with other dogs, and correct it in time if we notice that it growls, barks or shows its teeth. We should do it with a wake-up call, like a dry jerk with the leash.
Keep calm
The worst thing we can do in those moments is scream and get upset. We have to remain calm, although yes, act quickly. Always without hitting either of the two animals or pulling their bodies or leashes, as this would increase their aggressiveness.
Throw water or a blanket over it
If possible, throwing a bucket of water on both dogs or wetting them with a hose would cause them to immediately separate as a knee-jerk reaction. The same happens if we throw a blanket or coat over them, since they will focus on getting rid of the garment and will give us a few seconds to intervene and control the situation.
Make noise
Another good trick is to make a loud noise to get the dogs' attention. The best option would be to hit something metallic, but any loud sound could do the trick.
Raise its hind legs
This must always be done with the collaboration of the owner of the other dog. Both must grasp the hind legs of their dogs, at the height of the hips, at the same time, and then raise them little by little. The animals will take a few seconds or perhaps minutes to release, but they will do so without damage as long as we do not pull back.
Never pull on the necklace or come between the two
The more we pull back on their collars, the more their aggressiveness level will increase, which could actually hurt each other. On the other hand, we must not put our hands or arms between the two, as we can be seriously injured.
