This disease may not sound familiar to you, and the cause is still not well known, if it is something genetic, although this is almost ruled out, or other factors. The swimmer syndrome it is so named because the puppies have the appearance of a swimmer, with the limbs extended and the chest always resting on the ground.
On many occasions, the cure is spontaneous, as they grow older, but the vast majority of these puppies have been euthanized due to misinformation. As it is an increasingly well-known evil, there are already places where the rehabilitation of these puppies, so that they can walk normally again, and it is achieved with some work.
This is not well known, so it used to be thought that it was a genetic disease that had no cure, but rehabilitation has worked in many puppies. The symptom they are open chest, always supported. They cannot remain seated or standing, they always have their limbs extended.
In puppies that have this problem, it is often seen two or three weeks of life, when they should start walking. Not being able to do it, that's when you have to start rehabilitation. Swimming, to get their legs to move, to make them try to stand, are some of the jobs. Obviously, you always have to trust canine rehabilitation experts, in centers where they also have all the material.
There are spaces in which the dog is put, in which they have to stand upright. Little by little, with work, the dog is getting to change the position of its legs and walk normally. It is not something that stays that way for life, but obviously it does not change from one day to the next. In general, there is a suspicion that it is a problem derived from indiscriminate breeding, although it has yet to be proven.
