It will be easier for us to protect our pet if we know what the insects that cause these problems; Here are five of the most common.

1. Phlebotome. This mosquito is the carrier of leishmaniasis, a disease that causes inflammation of the joints, ulcers, bleeding and muscle weakness, among many other symptoms. It is present in several European countries, including France, Italy and Spain, and it can be fatal to both animals and humans. There is no cure for this disease, although fortunately there are some methods to reduce the chances of contracting it, such as vaccines or pills, as well as effective treatment to control its symptoms.

2. Ticks. Most of their bites do not cause a great disorder, but sometimes they carry serious problems such as Lyme disease or Tularemia. They are found in areas with vegetation and humidity, and among the symptoms they cause are muscle weakness, joint pain or breathing difficulties. To avoid them, nothing better than keeping the deworming calendar up to date and using the products recommended by the vet.

3. Processionary pine caterpillar. It is extremely toxic to animals and people. Its simple friction causes inflammation of some organs and severe breathing difficulties. They come to light in spring and attract the attention of dogs especially thanks to their way of moving, forming a long line and in circular movements. Just sniffing them is highly damaging. Its effect requires immediate veterinary treatment, as it can be fatal.

4. Wasps. A sting on the tongue causes great inflammation, to the point where the air intake can be blocked, thus causing the dog to suffocate. If you are allergic, the effects worsen. In both steps, prompt veterinary attention is necessary.

5. Spiders. With their bites they cause inflammation and infections, as well as significant skin irritations. Their bites have the added drawback that they are made worse by contact with the dog's saliva.
