As we know, body language is of utmost importance in the communication process of dogs. For them it is not necessary to express themselves verbally, since with the movement of their body they are able to show their state of mind both to us and to other animals. The problem is that sometimes people do not know this peculiar "language", in which areas such as the queue and ears they serve a primary function.
This time we focus on the movement of the ears, analyzing the meaning of each of the gestures that the dogs perform with them.
1. Erect and leaning forward. It is a sign of attention. When a dog positions its ears in this way, it is showing interest in something, which can be a noise, an unknown person, food, a new toy, etc.
2. Erect, bent forward and accompanied by the advanced chest. Reflects dominance and possible attack. It is likely that it also raises its tail, keeping it straight, raises its head, wrinkles its muzzle and shows its teeth.
3. Backwards. It means that the dog is tense, that it is afraid. He may in turn lower his head and squint. Sometimes this gesture prevents an attack, especially if it shows its teeth, so we must be careful when approaching.
4. Bent back. With the ears close to the head and positioned backwards, the dog shows submission. You may also lower your head and keep your gaze down.
5. On the move. If you move the ears forward, down, and back continuously, the dog is calm and relaxed. In those moments he does not want to be disturbed, but to rest.
6. Totally relaxed. Along with the erect and moving tail, the open mouth and the wide open eyes, it shows a friendly attitude.
As we can see, the dog's ears are an important communication tool. Therefore, we must completely rule out mutilationAlthough a few years ago it was very common for aesthetic reasons, today it is fortunately in progressive disappearance.
