Tips to protect your dog from the sun

Dog lying in the sun.

Sun It has for dogs, as for humans, a number of benefits; for example, it provides them with vitamin D and favors the proper functioning of the immune system. However, it can also cause serious damage to your skin if we do not take the proper measures. In this post we give you some tips to protect your dog's skin during the warmer days.

And it is that sometimes we are not aware of how much excess sun can harm our pet. We must know that among their negative consequences we find conditions as serious as severe burns, heat hits or skin cancer. These are more common in albino dogs and short-haired breeds, such as the Chinese Crested or the Chihuahua, which need more specific care.

As we said, we can protect our dog from all this by following some tips. To begin with, it is important that let's not cut her hair too much in summer, so that the skin is not exposed to the sun without any protection. We can reduce the coat so that the animal does not get so hot, but never shave it to the point where its skin is visible.

It is also essential that we avoid walking the dog during the hours of maximum heat, between 12:00 and 17.00:XNUMX; or in any case, walk only in shady areas. This way we will reduce not only the risk of damage to the skin, but also that the animal suffers a heat stroke.

On the other hand, it must be taken into account that some areas of your body are more sensitive than others; these are nose and ears. If the dog is light-skinned, it is best to apply sunscreen on them, always consulting the veterinarian beforehand. He will recommend the appropriate product, which in some breeds we must also apply on other areas.
