How to train a deaf dog

If you have a deaf dog and you would like him to learn to live in society respecting the basic rules of coexistence, you will only need five things: patience, perseverance and respect, which are essential, and also affection and rewards.

And the thing is, he may have lost his hearing, but he still has the other four senses intact 😉. Then we will explain how to train a deaf dog.

Exaggerate your expressions

The dog is an animal that, regardless of whether it is deaf or not, learn above all by observing the reactions of your human. In fact, when we teach an order, associating a word with said order is not mandatory, because once the furry has understood what we want there is no need to ask it in words.

Therefore, every time you want to teach him something, exaggerate your expression of joy or disapproval to make it easier for him to understand you. Tell all family members to make the same gestures as you when you train your friend; so you won't be confused.

Use the treats

In order for him to pay attention to you in due time, you have to have something that he loves, and what better than to use dog treats. Start teaching him things indoors and then if you have a garden or can go to a dog park, work with your friend there.

As soon as he has a desired behavior give him a treat, even if you are not training it. For example, if you are in the kitchen and your dog sits down, reward him. This way, you will know that it is okay to sit down and will do it again.

The deaf dog can lead a completely normal life, just like the hearing aid. You are just going to need your family to have a little more patience so that you can learn.
