Warts on my Pet

Warts They are a group of abnormal cells that form a kind of clusters and appear on the skin, especially around the mouth and eyes.

In dogs, these warts are called viral papillomas and generally appear in the mouth in the form of cauliflower.

Although warts are quite unsightly, don't worry, they don't pose any health hazard to your pet.

But what is the cause of these formations? Warts are caused by a virus that stimulates epithelial cells. This virus is known as papillomavirus. The most common ways of acquiring this virus It is by contagion with another animal that has the wart or also acquiring it through the environment. Remember that the animals that are most prone to acquiring the papillomavirus are those that have a weak immune system or that are sick.

Some tips to treat warts are:

  • Try applying some vitamin E oil directly to the wart, at least 2 times a day, for a couple of weeks until it is completely gone.
  • You can also apply castor oil to the wart to soften it and prevent irritation and discomfort that it can cause.
  • Be forewarned and be vigilant in feeding your pet. In this way, your animal's immune system will remain prepared and strong.

Although if your dog has warts it is not absolutely necessary to visit your veterinarian, it would be advisable for your doctor to perform the necessary tests to determine why this virus was acquired, since if your pet has a weak immune system, it may also acquire other diseases that can be life-threatening.
