This viral disease is very contagious, affecting especially puppies causing them very uncomfortable and unpleasant symptoms. Let us know what are the symptoms of canine coronavirus.
Canine coronavirus It is an acute disease that has no cure. The virus passes from one infected animal to another through fecal-oral contact. Once it has entered the body of the »victim», it undergoes an incubation period that lasts between 24 and 36 hours, after which it will begin to attack the microvilli of the intestine, causing their functional loss and causing the following symptoms:
- Diarrhea: appearing suddenly. Contains blood and mucus.
- Dehydration: As a result of diarrhea, the dog loses fluids.
- Loss of appetite: eat less and less, and without feeling like it.
- Fever: his body temperature is over 40ºC.
- Abdominal pain: he can get to complain a lot every time we caress his abdomen.
- Tremors- The pain may be so severe and / or the fever so high that it may cause you to tremble.
If we see that you have any of these symptoms, we have to urgently take him to the vet for treatment, either combining medications or opting for a single treatment depending on each case. Thus, you can choose to administer antivirals to eliminate viruses, appetite stimulants so that you do not stop eating, antibiotics to avoid secondary infections caused by the virus, or fluids to rehydrate you.
Still, you have to know that can be prevented by getting the vaccine corresponding to two months of age. It will not prevent it 100%, but it will prevent it at 98% which is already a lot 🙂
