Witnessing a dog fight is an experience very unpleasant, especially if one of the two is yours, since it is inevitable to wonder what it is that you have done wrong, or if in some way it could have been avoided.
Starting from that I'm going to tell you what to do if two dogs fight, so that in case you see one you know how to act.
Follow this step by step:
- Have the cool and calm mind. Regardless of who the dogs are, it is very important to keep a cool mind, and above all calm. The more nervous you are, the worse the animals will behave, and the worse the consequences could be for the one with the least strength.
- Now go to them fast and take the tail of one. Ask someone to do the same with the other. It may seem a bit cruel, but you have to think that at that moment the animals are very tense and that they are only looking at their »opponent». If anyone chose to get in between the two, they would take a bite.
- Once the two dogs are restrained, try to separate them. Without making sudden movements, but firmly. Take small steps back until they are far enough apart that you can strap them on.
- Once they have them, distance yourself even more from the other dog. Gone to a place where they cannot be seen, without saying a single word to them.
- Then put dog treats on the floor so they can do a little sniffing. This way they will be able to calm down.
It is very important that if one of the dogs is yours and / or you do not see yourself capable of doing anything that ask for help. Whoever.
In addition to not talking to them, neither should you hit them or throw them to the ground to show that "we are stronger" or that "we are the ones in command. They simply they wouldn't understand, and we would only make them fear us. It is much better to get the dog out of that situation, take him to a quiet place, and let him work his nose for a little while to calm him down.
