When does weaning begin in dogs?
Canine moms feed their little ones from the first time they are born until about a.m. six weeks old. Of course, you should know that if you let them, they can continue to suckle from time to time until they are two months old.
Anyway, after a month and a half they can start to give them wet feed for puppies or dry food soaked in warm water.
When can they separate from the mother?
Depends. At least it is recommended to wait until it is two months old, as it will already be completely weaned and most likely has learned to eat feed. But especially if it is of a large breed or a cross of large breeds, the ideal is to wait for the twelve weeks.
Why? Well one more month may not seem like a lot, but from the second to the third the puppy will learn where the limit is, to control the force of the bite, and also by being in contact with his mother and siblings, also you will learn to feel more and more calm and secure.
What happens if you separate early?
If it is not expected to be at least eight weeks old, the puppy may become very insecure and / or fearful, which can lead to inappropriate behavior.
