Dog sniffing a hand.

As we well know, dogs have an extraordinary olfactory capacity, getting to capture odors imperceptible to humans at great distances and to be identified with surprising efficiency. This entails a disadvantage for them, and that is that they are very susceptible to those aromas that are unpleasant. Some of them are part of our day to day, among which we can list the following.

Antiseptic alcohol and alcoholic beverages

The higher its graduation, the more annoying it will be for the animal. For this reason it is important to keep alcohol away from him, as not only is it unpleasant for your nose, but contact with it can irritate your nose, pharynx, mouth and eyes. We should never treat the wounds on his skin with disinfectant alcohol or let him drink alcohol, as it seriously damages his body.

Some beauty products

The chemical compounds that usually make up these products, such as nitrocellulose, formaldehyde and isopropyl, irritate the canine sense of smell. We talk about elements such as nail polish, hair spray and nail polish remover, among others. They produce sneezing and itching in the nose of dogs.

Cleaning

By containing a high percentage of chemicals, cleaning products such as bleach, chlorine, ammonia and alcohol, are unbearable for dogs. The odor they give off irritates your nasal passages and pharynx, and can even be dangerous if inhaled directly. Also, contact with it causes burns on your skin. The most advisable thing would be to use natural products.

Mothball

Not only does it smell especially unpleasant for dogs; it is also toxic to them. Its frequent use can cause serious damage to the health of the animal, and even death in case of ingestion or direct contact.
