Hairless dog breeds

Peruvian hairless dog adult.

While some races Canines are especially striking thanks to their abundant fur, others stand out precisely for the opposite. We are talking about those that by nature have very little or no hair, something that although it supposes several advantages, it also requires special care. These are six of the best known.

1. Peruvian hairless dog. As its name indicates, this breed comes from Peru; in fact, it is said that the Incas considered it a sacred dog and was a participant in various religious ceremonies. Currently, it is recognized as a symbol of the country's national heritage. With an elegant and refined constitution, it can be of three different sizes, ranging from 4 to 25 kg. Affectionate and outgoing, it is characterized by its lack of fur, which makes its body temperature higher than that of other breeds, to balance this lack of protection on the skin.

2. Chinese Crested. Of uncertain origin, it is believed to have come from Latin America or Africa, and is one of the most popular dogs on the list thanks to its numerous appearances in film and television. Cheerful, active and independent, its weight does not usually exceed 6 kg, although there are some varieties within the breed with different characteristics. One of them has hair only on the head, the tip of the tail and the legs, which gives it a most peculiar appearance.

3. Hairless Chihuahua. Created by human hands from intentional crosses, this tiny dog is completely hairless, with only a little hair on its head, tail end, and lower extremities. Nervous and playful, his weight ranges between 1 and 3 kg.

4. American Hairless Terrier. It comes from the United States and its weight does not usually exceed 7 kg. He is dynamic, intelligent and has a strong hunting instinct, although he is also patient and tolerant. Due to the characteristics of their skin, they require some special care.

5. Argentine Pila Dog. Originally from Argentina, this breed can be of various sizes, and stands out for the small amount of hair it has on its head and tail, shaped like a crest. He is nervous, affectionate and playful, although he can be suspicious of strangers. Few specimens exist compared to other breeds, to the point where until not long ago experts feared their extinction.

6. Xoloitzcuintli. Also known as the Aztec Dog, it comes from Mexico, being one of the oldest breeds that exist today. His skin is dark and somewhat wrinkled, without a single hair on it. Its size can be very varied (from 2 to 18 kg.), And although it is shy, it is also tolerant and very familiar.
